Mozart in the South
Want to hear what a $1.7 million dollar violin sounds like? You’ll get your chance this September when Elizabeth Pitcairn performs with Chamber Music Charleston for the Mozart in the South finale at the Cathedral of St. Luke and St. Paul. Pitcairn will play her 1720 “Red Mendelssohn” Stradivarius, which was purchased at a 1990 London auction as a gift for the young violinist. But there’s lots more going on that weekend besides red violins. On Fri. Sept. 20, catch the Beethoven: His Women and His Music play at the Sottile Theatre. Then bring the whole family for the Little Mozart Circus on Sept. 21. The free festival takes place from 8:30 a.m.-1 p.m. and features performances from local student musicians as well as a chance to see what musical education programs are available. Just stop by the tents that will house representatives from the Charleston County School of the Arts, Hungry Monk Music, the Childbloom Guitar program, and more.

When: Fri., Sept. 20, 7:30 p.m., Sat., Sept. 21, 8:30 a.m.-1 p.m. and Sun., Sept. 22, 3 p.m.
