Links Renovation Dispatch: September 16, 2015 Update
Happy September! The finish line is in sight for the Links Golf Course renovation.
This week, the cart paths will be complete, the majority of the re-sodding will be completed and the crews will begin working on details such as cart path tie-ins, selected dune plantings and preparation of the course for over-seeding. The putting greens are filling in nicely and will continue to be fertilized and top-dressed until opening. Here is a picture of the 10th Hole with new putting green adjacent to the Links Clubhouse. Meet the New Sea Island Grill & Lounge Executive Chef: Brett Sparman
Meet Chef Brett Sparman, the new Executive Chef rounding out the culinary team at the Sea Island Grill & Lounge. Sparman brings more than 14 years of culinary experience and recently relocated from Santa Fe, New Mexico. Sparman previously served as the Executive Chef for the Luminaria Restaurant & Patio at one of sister properties The Inn and Spa at Loretto.
Golf Guru Q&A: J.R. McCroskey - Golf Course Superintendent, Harbor Course at Wild Dunes Resort
Welcome to our new golf Q&A series, a chance to meet and greet with the masters, movers and shakers of Wild Dunes Golf. In anticipation of the reopening of the Links, our expert Golf Gurus will share insider knowledge of the game and what to look forward to with the re-designed course. First up, we introduce you to J.R. McCroskey, Superintendent of the Harbor Course.
J.R. brings to our facility over 10 years as a Class A Superintendent. After graduating Clemson University in Horticulture, he has worked on some of the finest southeast golf courses including the Colleton River Club’s Dye Course, both the Oconee and Great Waters courses at Reynolds Plantation, the Harbor Club in Greensboro, Georgia, and here at Charleston’s Wild Dunes Harbor Course for three and a half years.
With over 16 years working in the turfgrass industry, J.R. has gained experience with 11 varieties of both cool and warm season turfgrasses and has managed both Bent grass and Bermuda grass putting surfaces. His passion for the game of golf and golf course architecture have shaped his course management philosophies toward a more traditional and sustainable presentation of his courses, staying true to the original design and showcasing each courses’ own authentic personality.
We recently caught with J.R to learn more about his passion, what he loves about Wild Dunes golf and what he’s most looking forward to with the new and improved Tom Fazio Links Course. Read on for the interview…

Swing for the Cure at Wild Dunes Resort’s Isle of Palms, SC Tennis and Golf Fundraiser, November 20 & 21
New date! Join us the weekend of November 20 & 21, 2015 at Wild Dunes Resort for a tennis and golf fundraiser to benefit the Lowcountry Affiliate of the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation.
Vicki Hollingsworth, a longtime resident of Isle of Palms who proudly called Wild Dunes her home, lost a stoic battle with breast cancer in April of 2010. It is in memory of Vicki’s legacy that the Hollingsworth family has generously agreed to partner with Swing for a Cure as the event’s title sponsor.
Links Renovation Dispatch: August 19, 2015 Update
Hello from the Links! The Links Golf Course and Clubhouse renovations are progressing as the #LinksCountdown continues and we get closer to the mid-October re-opening of the facilities. The putting greens are being mowed and top-dressed on a regular basis and look great! The irrigation contractor has ONE hole left to finish and the cart paths are complete on all holes except 10-13 and some additional work near the clubhouse. Read on for more updates on the practice facility and clubhouse.
