Golf Guru Q&A: J.R. McCroskey - Golf Course Superintendent, Harbor Course at Wild Dunes Resort
Welcome to our new golf Q&A series, a chance to meet and greet with the masters, movers and shakers of Wild Dunes Golf. In anticipation of the reopening of the Links, our expert Golf Gurus will share insider knowledge of the game and what to look forward to with the re-designed course. First up, we introduce you to J.R. McCroskey, Superintendent of the Harbor Course.
J.R. brings to our facility over 10 years as a Class A Superintendent. After graduating Clemson University in Horticulture, he has worked on some of the finest southeast golf courses including the Colleton River Club’s Dye Course, both the Oconee and Great Waters courses at Reynolds Plantation, the Harbor Club in Greensboro, Georgia, and here at Charleston’s Wild Dunes Harbor Course for three and a half years.
With over 16 years working in the turfgrass industry, J.R. has gained experience with 11 varieties of both cool and warm season turfgrasses and has managed both Bent grass and Bermuda grass putting surfaces. His passion for the game of golf and golf course architecture have shaped his course management philosophies toward a more traditional and sustainable presentation of his courses, staying true to the original design and showcasing each courses’ own authentic personality.
We recently caught with J.R to learn more about his passion, what he loves about Wild Dunes golf and what he’s most looking forward to with the new and improved Tom Fazio Links Course. Read on for the interview…
