Huey, the infamous goose who lived at the Breach Inlet Texaco (now, the Boathouse), made quite a few friends of the female variety on the island. Huey was not a fan of men, but was extremely fond of the women who pumped their gas at his self-service station. However, if any woman pulled up with the color red on, Huey attacked! He would lift his wings and charge the woman, ready to strike. The gas station owner had to calm Huey down after encounters with ladies in red.
“He could knock you down like a grown man could. But he was still our mascot, and I put up with him because people loved him.”
– Gene White, Texaco Owner
