Wellness Worthwhile - August Heat!
Each month, Sand and Sea Salon and Spa Director, Sally Hickerson gives us a wellness tip to live by! August is one of the hottest months of the year and everyone needs to know the signs of heat exhaustion.
It’s super hot out in August. My guess is you already know how to keep yourself from getting heat exhaustion (HYDRATION!), but may not always be able to protect yourself from the consequences of too much time out in this heat. Once you’ve entered a state of exhaustion, it’s important to know the signs of when you are slipping into a much more dangerous and possibly fatal heat stroke. When you are suffering from exhaustion, you will sweat profusely as a natural defense to cool the body down. You may also be dizzy and have a headache and muscle cramps. At this point, it is essential that you find a way to cool down or seek medical attention. When a body progresses to a full blown heat stroke, medical attention will be required. The person may hyperventilate, will stop sweating and the skin will become hot and dry as the body begins to shut down. They may also suffer from hallucinations or may go unconscious. If you notice any of these signs in yourself, notify someone immediately. For your health!
