Meet in the Wild: Q&A with Eric Pease, Director of Group Sales at Wild Dunes Resort

To kick off the introductions, we sat down with our Director of Group Sales, Eric Pease. A Midwesterner turned Southern Gentleman, Eric shared a little about his background, current role at Wild Dunes and what he likes to do on and off the clock in Isle of Palms paradise.
Born and raised in Indianapolis, Indiana, Eric Pease entered the hospitality industry with a college internship at a hotel company. Upon graduation from Purdue University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Management and Marketing, Eric left his Hoosier roots and moved to the East Coast, taking his first job in sales in Northern Virginia, then Chapel Hill, North Carolina where he joined the Destination Hotels family in 2006 as a Corporate Sales Manager at the Carolina Inn.
In 2009, Eric set his sights on the other Carolina, specifically the sunny shores and southern charm of Charleston, South Carolina, starting as a Regional Sales Manager at Wild Dunes Resort. Two years later he got married at Wild Dunes with a beachside ceremony and celebration at our Grand Pavilion. A consistent mentor and leader of the Destination Hotels and Resort team – holding the largest booking year in 2013 by a sales person in Wild Dunes Resort history and named 2010 Manager of the Year and 2011 Sales Executive of the Year – Eric was promoted Director of Group Sales at Wild Dunes Resort in March 2014, now overseeing an eight person national sales force as well as golf and catering sales operations.

Q: What inspires you about a career in hospitality?
A: I love the challenge every week not knowing who we are going to meet and then the variety of meeting planners and attendees we come to meet and work with throughout the booking process. It’s inspiring to share the Charleston and Wild Dunes Resort experience with each and every client and guest.
Q: What’s your favorite thing about Wild Dunes Resort?
A: The people. We have such a great team of hard-working and caring individuals that really make the experience special for not only me and their other co-workers, but most especially for our group guests.
Q: What are your greatest strengths as a sales manager?
A: My sales strengths are business development, building rapport with new clients , being open and candid, working together as a team and with clients for a win/win and 100% making sure everyone whom I work with gets the full Charleston experience when they visit.
Q: What activities or hobbies do you like to do off the clock?
A: When I’m not in the office, I most enjoy just spending quality time with my family. You can also find me doing CrossFit, playing golf or rooting for my alma mater – Go Boilermakers!
Q: What’s on your Charleston bucket list?
A: Buying a boat! One day, I hope...
Q: Lastly, what is your proudest accomplishment?
A: Being a part of an inspiring team and achieving “Sales Team of the Year” in 2011 within Destination Hotels and Resorts. My baby girl – Samantha Elizabeth – is pretty adorable too.
