Inside Wild Dunes: Meet Matt Marcino
Welcome to our Inside Wild Dunes series, where we'll showcase Resort personnel for our guests to meet. Our first spotlight will feature Matt Marcino, Boardwalk Inn & Village at Wild Dunes Housekeeping Manager, who's been with the Resort now for...7 years!
Q: What drove you to become an associate at Wild Dunes Resort?
A: In 2002, I worked for a resort in Stowe Vermont. During and after employment there, I determined that hospitality would be a good career path. I then moved to Charleston in 2004. I was hired by Wild Dunes Resort as a Reservation Sales Associate August 23, 2004. I celebrated my 7 year anniversary this August.
Q: Tell us more about your role on the Resort and what you love most about it.
A: I’m responsible for ensuring the guests have an immaculate, up-to-date, and nicely appointed accommodation. A clean room is the key to a relaxing and peaceful stay. I come to work for my staff. We have a great team that pulls together in the hardest of times. We have fun, and we’re always thinking of ways to improve our service to enhance the guest’s perception of Wild Dunes Resort.
Q: What do you love most about working at Wild Dunes Resort?
A: The people: Guests & Colleagues. It’s truly remarkable that I get to work in the industry of creating memories. That’s what people do on vacation…create memories.
Q: What is your favorite activity or event that happens on the Resort?
A: Kids Week!
Q: What’s your favorite time of year on the Resort and why?
A: Fall. It’s that time of year in South Carolina when the humidity is gone, the mild weather is here, and it lasts all the way into November.
Q: Tell us about your favorite memory while working here.
A: In 2004, a situation arose, which resulted in my speaking with this couple, The Young’s. They relied on me to recover the situation, and eight years later, they still visit, staying in the same room year after year to celebrate their anniversary. We email back and forth several times throughout the year. It’s become more personal than professional. It’s great.
Q: What is the most scenic location on the Resort, in your opinion?
A: On the 17th Fairway of the Harbor Course you can look out into the Intracoastal Waterway. From that view, it's like you can see for miles (or so it seems).
Q: What do you love about living in Charleston?
A: The weather, the food, the laid back, yet classy atmosphere.
Q: Tell a little known fact about you!
A: I am a Notary Public for South Carolina. I can legalize documents, such as real estate contracts, marriage licenses, sales of items, Title changes. I officiate weddings and have officiated over 50 weddings since 2009.
Q: If you could give future guests one tip about visiting Wild Dunes Resort, what would that be?
A: Be flexible in your dates! The best times to visit Charleston, in my opinion, are October, early November, late March and early May.
