April Wellness Tip
Every month in 2013 keep a look out for our Wellness Worthwhile Tip from Wild Dunes Resorts' Sand & Sea Salon and Spa Director, Sally Hickerson! This month Sally tells us about a way to minimize your risk of cancer.
Happy end of April everyone! You may not know, but this is National Cancer Control Month. This is the perfect time to take stock of what you can do to minimize your risk factor. In addition to regular self checks and screening for early detection, you can change your diet in small increments to be more plant based. According to the Stanford Prevention Research Center, adding or increasing intake of foods like blueberries, tomatoes, onions, soy, and cruciferous vegetables (broccoli, brussel sprouts, cabbage) may make you less likely to develop cancer in the future. While eating little to no meat is preferable, studies have shown that just increasing vegetable intake can be quite beneficial. Consider this month an opportune time to make positive changes to give yourself the best possible future and adjust your vegetable intake accordingly. As they say, an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. For your health!
