Beach Restoration

Residents and travelers visiting the Isle of Palms and Wild Dunes Resort over the last two years witnessed firsthand the severe impact of beach erosion along the northern end of the island. Thanks to a restoration project completed in July 2008, the erosion, which once threatened homes and villas and the Wild Dunes' Links Course, is resolved and the beach and all the Resort's oceanfront accommodations are open for everyone to enjoy.
Led by the City of Isle of Palms, the beach nourishment project restored more than two miles of coastline, bringing back the lush, white sandy beaches that line this barrier island. Roughly 900,000 cubic feet of sand was used to revitalize the beachfront, which now reaches nearly 150 yards in width along the entire strand.

You can also watch a video of the erosion and restoration process, which includes comments from Tim Kana, a leading expert in erosion and nourishment and the supervisor for the Isle of Palms beach restoration project.
